Avenue entertained the successful League One Ossett Town in the Second Round of the County Cup last Sunday, played on a claggy pitch it was always going to be a hard fought match, however it was made considerably more difficult by a referee obsessed with penelties!!

This match showed the spirit within the team when up against it and was very pleasing to see, Ossett played well and pushed Avenue all the way and it would be no suprise to see them in the Premier League next season, but the Laides showed their class difference by remaining professional, compossed and seeing the job through. A result they can by very proud of, we now go to Round Three.

Brayton Belles  4 v 0  Bradford Park Avenue Ladies

A cold, wind swept afternoon saw the avenue ladies come unstuck for the first time this season, in an extremely physical contest that resulted in several injured players leaving the field at the end of play.

Battling into the wind in the first half Avenue struggled to get full control of the ball and Brayton took advantage with two wind assisted goals, the first of which coming from a foul on Tessa Shaw ignored by the ref and leaving a gap in the defence. However Brayton where the stronger (quite literally), and more productive team in the first half and at half time Avenue could have no complaints at the score.

The second half however saw Avenue dominate, play some quality football at times but unable to capitalise, one shot was cleared of the Belles line from a corner and after being camped in the oppositions half for the opening section of the half, the Belles broke and finished from distance to sink Avenue.

Further injuries to Christina Berry and Leanne Benjamin made life even harder for the Ladies and despite the result they can be proud of their resilience and determination considering the conditions and physicality of the game.

A wet and windy afternoon saw Avenue Ladies and City Vixens both drop their first points of the season in a tense match up of the top two sides in the league. All in all very much a game of two halves and probably a fair result on reflection, pleasing resilience and concentraion whilst suffering an onslaught of attacks and several exciting and dangerous attacking moves of their own should leave the Avenue Ladies feeling generally pleased with their performance, the disappointment at dropping points should really be a sign of how much this team is achieving at the moment considering it is their first season in the premier league.

Avenue Out-Foxed By Vixens

Bradford 2 Vixens 2: The first half saw Avenue in control playing some nice football but not fully taking advantage of the strong wind behind them, the ball made it past the Vixens back four on several occassions but wasn't capitalised on often enough making its way safely to the visiting keeper regularly. There was however a goal to Avenue in the First 45, Leanne Benjamin keeping her cool in front of goal to lift over the shot stopper. Christina Berry also came close with an almost identical oppourtunity but saw her effort land on the foot of the post allowing the Vixens keeper to collect safely.

The second half meant running into a stiff wind and several periods of driving rain for Avenue, this however didn't stop them doubling their lead through Skipper Sarah Huby who is slowly becomning a regular on the scoresheet from midfield, once again a lovley strike. This was the highlight for Avenue though, after battling well for the majority of the game a quick break from the Vixens saw them claw back a goal and from this moment onwards they dominated the closing stages. Panic at the back each time the Leeds side came forward saw the ball being lofted clear time after time allowing Avenues nearest rivals chance after chance around the box. Eventually their pressure paid off and the scores were level again. Although Vixens where confident and in assendency, it was pleasing to see soon after the equaliser a lovley team move from Avenue resulting in a last gasp clearence in front of goal stopping what would almost certainly been a goal from Leanne Benjamin.

Kirklees 1 BPA 4: Avenue Ladies were made to fight hard in a gritty match at Leeds Road, possession had to be earned and the ball looked after when received. This was one of the best displays ever from the girls. Kirklees were a very good side who were left bemused as to how they had lost 4 - 1. Whilst Jill put the icing on the cake with her 4 goals, each and every player was outstanding.

A huge thank you to all those supporters who made the trip to Huddersfield on a cold afternoon the girls really apprieciated your support and it was mentioned after the game how much of a difference your presence made.

Also a quick note on the ref, who was better thn most we get at Unbnd level. He entered the spirit of the game by complementing the girls on both sides for good play.
All in all ..superb.

Park Avenue Ladies opened their League Cup campaign with nothing short of a destruction of a resiliant but poor Amaranth team.

Amaranth play the big boys (or girls)

 (from Amaranth site)
A slow start by Amaranth gifted Bradford a 3-0 lead after the first 3 minutes!!?!!, thereafter on average, Bradford scored a goal just short of every 3 minutes, leading 12 - 0 at half time.

Similar to Farsley, Amaranth went back onto the pitch in high spirits, though still ended up another 2 goals down after the first 2 minutes following the start of the 2nd half.

Realisation soon followed this was not going to be an easy game, but the ladies got stuck in and started playing football. It took another 17 minutes before Bradford scored another goal, albeit the did pepper the goal with varying shots throughout this period, but with some great saves, Sarah excelled in goals. Within this period, Chloe tried an audatious shot just inside the left hand side of the Bradford half, only just missing the goal.

As the half progressed Amaranth pressed, but left themselves short at the back (and with only 9 outfield players at the start of the game, then losing 1 more within the first 5 minutes due to injury) it did cause us many problems. But the heart of the players showed and they carried on with the task at hand.

The game ended with a scoreline of Amaranth 0 - Bradford 19, but this didn't really show the effort the team put in from the first whistle to the last whistle.

Woman of the Match - Sarah Wrenn.

Good performances also from Sarah and Jo, Lisa wide right and Sharon upfront.

The Ladies once again got a solid victory at the Horsfall Stadium this Sunday beating Hebden Royd 5-1. A hat-trick from Christina Berry saw a scrappy game become fruitful in the form of a further three points in a so-far successful season for the Ladies.
